- 14 - 16 years-old
The More Than Maps team, based in the School of Geography and Environmental Science at University of Southampton, invite you join the 'Be Flood Ready: Mapping, Managing, and Responding' two-part workshop.
At this two-part workshop, you will explore flooding and flood risk in and around Southampton, through the lens of adaptation.
In workshop 1, you will create a flood guide for your school, providing information on local flood risk, warnings, and preparedness advice. You will learn key geospatial techniques, using ArcGIS Online's Story Map, and risk communication skills, to ensure your guide is clear and informative.
Workshop 2 will put your new flood knowledge to the test! Through a flood adaptation game, you will take the role of a local council where you must engage with key stakeholders and make decisions about which flood adaptation strategies to invest in to best protect your local area.
This highly interactive workshop will provide you with the skills to respond to flooding, through understanding and communicating risk, and awareness of adaptation strategies to improve resilience.
Open to: GCSE Geography Students
PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT IS ONLY BOOKABLE THROUGH SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS by e-mailing morethanmaps@soton.ac.uk with student and staff numbers
Accessibility: Venue has full wheelchair access and hearing loop is available. There is an adult changing room (with hoist and changing table).
