Marvellous microscopes: BIU virtual tour

Age suitable for: 7+

Date and Time (UK time):
14/03/2022 17:00-18:00

The Biomedical Imaging Unit (BIU) at the University of Southampton provides diagnostic and research services in high quality/high resolution 2D, 3D and 4D X-ray, light and electron microscopy.

It is a facility run for the benefit of, and jointly funded by, the University of Southampton and the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

As part of Southampton Science and Engineering Festival 2022, we have created a series of online events to provide an opportunity for you to experience how powerful light and electron microscopes and X-ray micro computed tomography scanners can be used to visualise organs, cells and tissues at high magnification.

In this session, join us for a guided tour of the Biomedical Imaging Unit.

Our scientists will give you live demonstrations of how we process and prepare tissues for examination by microscopy. You will then get a chance to see our microscopes in action including scanning electron microscopes, transmission electron microscopes and confocal microscopes.

This event will take place online, in Zoom. You will receive joining instructions through Eventbrite.

Don't forget to book all other events of this special series 'Marvellous microscopes: Focus on...', running from Monday 14th to Friday 18th March.
