A Tour of Black Holes

Highfield Campus

Building: B56

Room: Student Centre

Age suitable for: 7+

Black holes are the simplest but most fascinating objects in the universe. Einstein taught us that gravity is the effect of spacetime itself being curved, and a black hole is the most extreme example: an area of spacetime so curved nothing (not even light) can ever climb out of it.

Nowadays we know the universe is full of these astounding objects, some of them 1000 times bigger than the Sun - and a billion times heavier!

In this activity we'll take you on a virtual-reality tour of black holes, play gravity games with a trampoline, and show you the secrets of spacetime.
