Human Powered Submarine: Mini-Submarine Activity
The Southampton University Human Powered Submarine Society is excited to offer you the opportunity to take part in our first-ever 'Water-bottle Submarine Races'!
Pick and choose the parts for your own submarine and try to get the fastest time of the day and win the prestigious Water-Bottle Submarine Trophy! Learn about hydro-dynamics, propulsion, and buoyancy as you battle to create the fastest submarine possible, and become the best engineers!
You'll be able to change the shape of the nose-cone, tail, and propeller of your submarine to create the perfect combination of power, hydro-dynamics and stability. Once you've chosen your parts, you'll have to add weights and foam to get the perfect balance in the water (no-one wants a floating submarine!)
Not only can you race your own submarine, but you'll have an opportunity to get a close-up look at a real-life human-powered submarine built by students, right here at the university!
Come along and try your engineering talents (and luck) in the very first Water-bottle Submarine Races!
